Validity of Stimulus and Response Components in a Video Test of Social Competence.

Uwe Funke and Heinz Schuler

(Synopsis)

Uwe Funke and Heinz Schuler investigate the validity of stimulus and response components of a video test of social competence. Their study shows that newer technology per se (here: multimedia-accessible video) does not necessarily result in improved diagnostic accuracy as compared, for example, with more conventional (i.e., non-multimedia) methodology. Cogently arguing that users of such technology should consider whether the extra expense and effort of such technology warrants its use, Funke and Schuler demonstrate that developers of video- and multimedia tests need to focus their efforts not so much upon the stimulus side of such multimedial testing, but, rather, upon the fidelity of response components of such tests if improvement in assessment validity using such technology is to be effected.(Synopsis from: Booth, 1998, p. 59.)
